May 27th, 2024 – The Lisbon Energy Summit & Exhibition opened today with a Ministerial Address by H.E. Maria da Graça Carvalho, Minister of Environment and Energy, speaking for the first time about the Portuguese Government’s strategy for renewables and upcoming initiatives, which was followed by an official tour of the exhibition.
Discussing energy policy, Her Excellency made the following important announcements:
"The Government is expected to announce news on offshore wind energy in mid-July. The Executive is working hard, considering there is place to a place for a country like Portugal to develop eolic energy offshore"
"We are launching today the renewable gases auction that aims to inject 140 million euros over 10 years, financed by the Environmental Fund, to compensate for price fluctuations, in green hydrogen and biomethane projects in important decarbonization projects to improve the circular economy."
"We are still dependent of fossil fuel in the Transports sector. The Portuguese Government has a strong ambition to work on this issue".
